Volvo S80 2.4D SE What‘s it? It is definitely an attempt by Volvo to maneuver the S80 from the “quirky alternative” category and closer to its mainstream German rivals. To obtain this the large Swede is treated to some reworked suspension to really make it a far more engaging and sporting drive. All versions, except the Executive, now obtain a “Lowered Dynamic Chassis”, with shortened coil springs (lowered 20 mm front, 15 mm rear ) and higher spring rates. The D5 makes an inspiring five-pot burble and it is a punchy unit inside the low and mid-range. There‘s a healthy plateau of torque between 1500-3250rpm, making for smooth effortless urge until the ability begins to tail off around 4000rpm. The chassis from the S80 is transformed ; gone is that the wallow, replaced using a newfound poise and body control. It is effortless to forget how big the S80 actually is, having a keener turn-in and much reduced body roll.
