Gauges and wood ear plugs are a form of body jewelry worn piercings, usually of the lobes of the ear, but sometimes doors in other parts of the body, such as the nose. Cap gauge sizes refer to the size of the opening of the piercing, which can be stretched over a period of time to accept the gauged earrings of increasing size. [See table of sizes below.] Spiral ear gauges are especially good to enlarge a piercing. Gauges for ears come in several different configurations, including single or double flared, unflared, threaded and o-ring varieties.
